After being angered by Brigu Maharshi’s lack of forgiveness, Sri Mahalakshmi and Sri Mahavishnu departed Srivaikunta for Bhooloka. Vakula Devi, the reincarnation of Krishnavataram’s Devi Yashoda, took in a young Lord Mahavishnu and raised him in Seshachalam. Padmavathi, or Sri Mahalakshmi, was raised by Aakasa Raja.
According to the Puranas, Sri Mahavishnu wed Sri Padmavathi when He appeared to Lord Srinivasa at Tirumala in Kaliyuga to bestow His blessings on the devotees of this yuga, who are immersed in materialistic pleasures and have lost their peace and spiritual strength. Sri Padmavathi Prinayotsav, held annually at Tirumala over the course of three days during the Vaisaka month, is a lavish celebration of the nuptials between Lord Srinivasa and Padmavathi Devi. This Parinayotsava is an important Annual Utsavam, much as Bramhotsavam, Teppotsavam, Vasanthotsavam, Pavitrotsavam, etc.

Each morning for three days, the Lord and His consorts go to Narayanagiri Udyana Vanam, where the celestial wedding would occur, accompanied by Mangala Vadyas, Vedic chanting, and other paraphernalia. Large and elegantly furnished, the wedding hall and platform draw worshippers with their majesty and beauty in anticipation of the heavenly nuptials.
Lord Malayappa, the bridegroom, rides in on a Gaja Vahana on the first day of the three-day event, an Aswa vahana on the second, and a Garuda on the final day. After the wedding ceremony, the three deities—the groom, the bride, and Sri Devi return to the temple on a palanquin. When the bride and groom arrive, they will face each other to begin the wedding ceremony.
Among the many vibrant rites that take place during the utsavam are the exchange of garlands, the Vastra Chativimbu (the presentation of new wedding Vastras), the Pooppanthatta (the frolic with flower balls), and the Venchepu (the appearance of the bride and groom together). Devotees may attend the wedding ceremony by paying a fee to the TTD. In order to enable the devotees to enjoy the heavenly wedding of the holy couple, the TTD goes to great lengths to decorate the hall and wedding platform in a beautiful and fitting way. The vibrant decorations and elaborate wedding rituals not only induce a state of holy ecstasy in the believers but also fill them with a feeling of contentment and happiness.
Vaishakha Shuddha Dashami celebrates the union of Padmavathi and Srinivasa and is held annually at Tirumala over the course of three days. Every May (at night) since 1992 (when there was a full moon). The nuptials of the divine couple Lord Srinivasa and Goddess Padmavathi took place at the Narayanagiri grounds, namely in the elaborately decorated Parinayotsavam Mandapam. Wedding celebrations begin the night before, on Vaishakha Suddha navami, when Sri Venkateshwara Swami rides Gaja Vahana and Sri devi and Bhu Devi ride in palanquins to the Narayanagiri garden.
This sacred wedding ceremony follows the unique customs of Hindu marriage. The Lord sits inside the ornate Parinaya Mandapam, while His two consorts stand to one side. On the second day, Vaishakha Suddha Dashami, the Lord rides Ashwa Vahana to Narayanagiri, followed by Garuda Vahana the next day, both times accompanied by his consorts in palanquins.

The wedding reception continues there for the next two days. Customs like the “Game of Flower Balls” (Pula Bantata), “Offering of New Clothes,” and “Receiving Each Other” (Edurukolu) are observed. On each of the three days, the exact identical thing will happen. Firing of crackers at the conclusion of this great heavenly marriage provides an extra glamorous touch to the whole event. After the nuptials are over, Lord Malayappa swami, Sridevi, and Bhudevi all make their way back to the temple’s main complex. *If they pay the required price, devotees may take part in this seva.
