The festival of Shivaratri celebrates the union of Shiva and Shakti. Masik Shivaratri occurs on Chaturdashi Tithi in Krishna Paksha every month.

According to Sanathana Dharma, Lord Shiva is the most worshipped god and Shiva is the leader of the devathas and Bhutha gana. On the Maha Shiva Ratri day, Lord Shankara manifested as an Agni Linga at the midnight. Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma were the ones who initially worshipped the Shiva Linga. As a result, Maha Shivaratri is regarded as Lord Shiva’s birthday, and Shiva Linga is honored during Shivaratri. Since ancient times, people have observed Shivaratri. Shivaratri Vrat is mentioned in Hindu Puranas. Even the goddesses Lakshmi, Indrani, Saraswati, Gayatri, Savitri, Sita, Parvati, and Rati are said to have followed the Shivaratri fast.

Devotees can begin the Masik Shivaratri Vrat on Maha Shivaratri and keep it up for a whole year. Following the Masik Shivaratri Vrats, it is thought that arduous and impossible tasks can be completed with the help of Lord Shiva. During Shivaratri, devotees should stay awake and perform Shiva Puja at midnight. Married women observe this fast to preserve harmony and peace in their marriages, while single women observe it to encourage marriage.

When Masik Shivaratri falls on a Tuesday, it is fortunate. It is advised to perform the Shivaratri Pujan at midnight, known as Nishita Kaal, which lasts for two Ghati. For all Shivaratri fasts, Nishita Kaal Muhurta is the time to perform Shiva Pujan.
