Celebrations of Aadi Pooram are held with great pomp and circumstance in virtually every Lord Vishnu temple that can be found in the state of Tamil Nadu. The festival known as ‘Valaikappu’ is celebrated on the day of Aadi Pooram in the Saiva temples. An elaborate dinner is prepared as an offering to the Goddess by the female members of the household.

An elaborate meal is prepared as an offering to the Goddess, and each household in the community contributes something to the meal.
