Narasimha Jayanti is one of the important Hindu festivals and is celebrated on the Vaisakha Chaturdashi which is the 14th day of Shukla Paksha. Narasimha Swamy is the 4th avatar of Lord Vishnu. The backstory of Lord Narasimha:

As per the Hindu Puranas, Lord Narayana took an avatar of Lord Narasimha to eliminate the demon hiranyakashipu. Hiranyakashipu hates lord Vishnu because Lord Vishnu killed his elder brother hiranyaksha. Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy killed the Demon Hiranyakashipa on Narasimha Jayanti, From the day, Narasimha Jayanthi is celebrated as a Hindu festival on Vaishakha Shukla Paksha Chaturdashi every year in a Grand Manner.

How to Celebrate Narasimha Jayanti At Home?

  • Devotees generally wake up before Sunrise and start their day with a Head Bath followed by Suryanamaskaram. The rituals are almost the same as Ekadashi. Devotees only eat one meal today after Pooja before Sunset. Many won’t prefer eating Main Course items like Rice, Wheat, and other Grains.
  • The Fasting generally starts after Suryanamaskaram and Continues up to Sunset after Pooja.
  • One can eat Fruits and drink Milk during the Fasting period and Avoid eating cooked dishes.
  • Some can also perform Anna Dhana Karyakramam. Devotees visit Narsimha Swamy Temple or Lord Vishnu temple during their fasting period.

In the evening before sunset, the Pooja ritual will be done at home. One should decorate the Pooja Room with Flowers and Cook the Naivedhyam for God. Dhoop and Camphor is used to Perform Pooja. People generally chant Lord Vishnu Stotrams and the Story of Narasimha. Fruits and Prasadam also kept neat Images of God in Pooja’s room. The Twilight time before the sunset is treated as Most auspicious and pooja will be performed at this time. Every devotee believes the devotion and faith in the Lord Vishnu. People should read Bhagavatha Puranam during the Pooja. Thus Devotees celebrate Narasimha Jayanti at home.
