The magnificent celebration of the Shivratri Festival celebrates the union of the goddesses Shakti and Maha deva Shiva. As per Sanatana Dharma, the Maha Shivratri festival takes place on the Chaturdashi tithi of the Krishna Paksha during the month of Magha. Every month, Krishna Paksha Chaturdashi is dedicated to Lord Shiva Pooja as Masa Shiva Ratri. But, This Magha masa Krishna paksha Chathurdashi is special of all Masa Shiva Ratri celebrations. As per Puranas, Sri Maha deva took an Incarnation himself as “Agnisthamba Linga” on the day of Maha Shiva Ratri.

  • This Year, Maha Shiva Ratri Falls on 18 February 2023 Saturday.
  • The Process of celebrating the festival is very simple. On this day the Lord shiva devotees do Upavasa Vratham (Fasting) and do Yaama Yaama Shiva Pooja.
  • If Not Possible to do Yaama Yaama Shiva Pooja, People can do it two times on Shiva Ratri day.
  • Also, some people do the Ekadha Maha Rudrabhishekam on this day.
  • All the Shiva Temples are beautifully decorated and organize many pooja and Havans on this Maha Shiva Ratri day.
  • Especially in South India, The temples like Srisailam, Srikalahasthi, Draksharamam, Thiruvannamalai, and Many more Shaiva Kshetra are crowded with Lord Shiva Devotees.
  • Sri Shiva Parvathi Kalyanam will be performed on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri at Lingodhbhava Kaala at all shiva temples on the Shiva Ratri day.
  • On the day before Shivratri, also devotees are only allowed to consume food once. After following the daily routine early in the morning on the day of Shivratri, worshippers should make a solemn commitment to abstain from food and drink for the entirety of that day.
  • To ensure the successful completion of the Shivaratri Vratha devotees should pray to Lord Shiva for Jnana, Bhakti, Virakthi, Ayushya, Aroghya, Aishwarya, and Success in their lives.
  • Chanting Lord Shiva Sahasranama Stotram, Shivastakam, Bilvastakam, and Rudram Namakam, Chamakam gives good results in life.
