Sankatahara Chaturthi Vratam is a relief from human suffering. Chaviti Tithi is one of the most favorite Tithis of Lord Ganapati who removes Vighnas. But this Chaviti or Chaturthi Puja is performed in two ways. The first is Varada Chaturthi, the second is Sankashtahara Chaturthi. The Vrat performed on the Chaturthi day after the new moon is called Varada Chaturthi, and the Vrat performed on the Chaturthi day after the full moon is called Sankashtahara Chaturthi or Sankathahara Chaturthi Vrat. In this, Varadachathurthi is observed as Vinayaka Vrat on Vinayaka Chavithi day. Sankata Hara Chaturthi vratam, which removes the troubles, is practiced regularly.
Every month in Krishna Paksha means Chavithi comes in 3 or 4 days after the full moon. Whenever Chavithi falls on the time of Pradoshakala (sunset time) it should be considered Sankashtahara Chavithi on that day. But it is not common to have Chaviti during Pradosha for two days. If this ever happens, it should be observed on the second day. Chaturthi is more important in the month of Shravana.
