Vyasa Krita Dakshinamurthy means one who is facing south(Dakshina) in Sanskrit. According to another school of thought ‘Dashinya ‘ means karuna in Sanskrit. so the manifestation of lord shiva as a benevolent is an aspect of the Hindu god Shiva as a guru of all types of knowledge. this aspect of lord shiva, as the original guru, is his personification as the supreme or the ultimate awareness, understanding, and knowledge. This form represents lord Shiva as a teacher of yoga, music, and wisdom, and he gives an exposition on the Shastras. He is worshipped as the god of wisdom and complete and rewarding meditation. according to Hindu scriptures, if a person doesn’t have a guru, they can consider and worship Dakshinamurthy as their guru. Eventually, Dakshinsmurthy will be blessed with a self-realized human guru, if they are worthy. In most lord shiva temples, the stone image of DAshinamurthy is installed, facing south on the southern path around the sanctum sanctorum.

॥ శ్రీ దక్షిణామూర్త్యష్టకమ్ (వ్యాస కృతం) ॥

 

శ్రీవ్యాస ఉవాచ –

శ్రీమద్గురో నిఖిలవేదశిరోనిగూఢ

బ్రహ్మాత్మబోధ సుఖసాంద్రతనో మహాత్మన్ |

శ్రీకాంతవాక్పతి ముఖాఖిలదేవసంఘ

స్వాత్మావబోధక పరేశ నమో నమస్తే || ౧ ||

సాన్నిధ్యమాత్రముపలభ్యసమస్తమేత-

దాభాతి యస్య జగదత్ర చరాచరం చ |

చిన్మాత్రతాం నిజ కరాంగుళి ముద్రయా య-

స్స్వస్యానిశం వదతి నాథ నమో నమస్తే || ౨ ||

జీవేశ్వరాద్యఖిలమత్ర వికారజాతం

జాతం యతస్స్థితమనంతసుఖే చ యస్మిన్ |

యేనోపసంహృతమఖండచిదేకశక్త్యా

స్వాభిన్నయైవ జగదీశ నమో నమస్తే || ౩ ||

యస్స్వాంశజీవసుఖ దుఃఖ ఫలోపభోగ-

హేతోర్వపూంషి వివిధాని చ భౌతికాని |

నిర్మాయ తత్ర విశతా కరణైస్సహాన్తే

జీవేన సాక్ష్యమత ఏవ నమో నమస్తే || ౪ ||

హృత్పుండరీకగతచిన్మణిమాత్మరూపం

యస్మిన్ సమర్పయతి యోగబలేన విద్వాన్ |

యః పూర్ణబోధసుఖలక్షణ ఏకరూప

ఆకాశవద్విభురుమేశ నమో నమస్తే || ౫ ||

యన్మాయయా హరిహర ద్రుహిణా బభూవు-

స్సృష్ట్యాదికారిణ ఇమే జగతామధీశాః |

యద్విద్యయైవ పరయాత్రహి వశ్యమాయా

స్థైర్యం గతా గురువరేశ నమో నమస్తే || ౬ ||

స్త్రీపుంనపుంసకసమాహ్వయ లింగహీనో-

ఽప్యాస్తేత్రిలింగక ఉమేశతయా య ఏవ |

సత్యప్రబోధ సుఖరూపతయా త్వరూప-

వత్త్వే న చ త్రిజగతీశ నమో నమస్తే || ౭ ||

జీవత్రయం భ్రమతి వై యదవిద్యయైవ

సంసారచక్ర ఇహ దుస్తరదుఃఖ హేతౌ |

యద్విద్యయైవ నిజబోధరతం స్వవశ్యా

విద్యం చ తద్భవతి సాంబ నమో నమస్తే || ౭ ||
