History of Bhai Dooj Festival:
- Hindu texts say that Goddess Yamina and her brother Lord Yamraj were very close. When her brother came to visit her two days after Diwali, she was so happy that she made him a delicious meal. Lord Yamraj was moved by her kindness, so Goddess Yamuna asked him to come to see her every year, like after Diwali.
- Goddess Yamuna put a Tilak on his forehead and wished him good health and happiness. She said that a man doesn’t have to be afraid of Lord Yamraj if his sister puts tilak on his forehead. Since then, Bhai Dooj has been an important part of the celebration.
