Traditions of Ayudha Pooja:
- Ayudha Puja was originally intended to worship swords, but in its current form, all types of instruments are worshipped on the same day. It is a day when all craftsmen in South India worship their instruments and tools, similar to Vishwakarma Puja in other parts of India.
- Ayudha Puja has evolved into Vahana Puja, in which individuals worship their vehicles such as cars, scooters, and motorcycles. During Vahana Puja, all cars are decked with vermilion, garlands, mango leaves, and banana saplings and worshipped. During Vahana Puja, a white pumpkin is painted with vermilion and turmeric and crushed in front of the vehicle as a custom to drive away all ills.
- People wash their instruments, tools, and automobiles before worshipping them. Businessmen clean their establishments and perform a pooja. Shops will be closed following the puja. Ayudha Puja is a special day for worshipping office and school books, among other things.
