According to Puranas, Lord Narasimha Swamy denotes the victory of the good over the evil. Devotees believe that by worshipping lord Narasimha Swamy and observing a fast on Narasimha Jayanthi, they can end their misfortunes and get blessings from the Lord Narasimha Swamy.As per puranas, Hiranyakasipudu was blessed with a male child, Prahlada, who became a devotee of Lord Narayana. Then Hiranyakasipudu challenged Prahlada to prove the existence of Lord Vishnu. Prahlada told that Lord Vishnu is everywhere and even in the pillars of the palace. Hiranyakasipudu then struck one of the pillars out of which Narasimha Swamy emerged. Narasimha Swamy killed Hiranyakasipudu on that day, and it is celebrated as Narasimha Jayanti.
Narasimha Jayanti Pooja Vidhanam:
- Wake up early in the morning and do a head bath.
- Clean the house thoroughly and decorate the pooja room.
- Apply sandalwood paste (chandanam) and kumkum to the deities and decorate with flowers.
- Perform pooja to Goddess Lakshmi Devi and Lord Narasimha Swamy.
- Readout Lakshmi Narasimha Stotram during the pooja to please Lord Narasimha and Goddess Lakshmi Devi.
- After the pooja, offer prasadam to the deities. One can use fruits, Kesari, sweets as naivedhyam.
- On Narasimha Jayanthi, one has to fast from the sunrise of Narasimha Jayanthi to the sunrise of the next day.
- It is considered auspicious to donate sesame seeds, clothes, food, and precious metals to needy people.
