Story of Naraka Chaturdashi:

On this day, it is thought that festive beings like Krishna, Kali, and Satyabhama killed the demon (evil spirit) Narakasura. The locals in some areas think that Mahakali killed Narakasura.

On the fourteenth day of the waning moon (lunar moon) in the month of Kartik Masam, a celebration known as Narak Chaturdashi is observed. It is also referred to as Kali Chaudas, Roop Chaudas, and Narak Chaudas. People admire the Lord of Death, known as “Yamraj,” with the deepest love and adoration, in accordance with ancient Indian mythology. It is also known as Choti Diwali because it is observed the day before Diwali. After sunset on this day, people light Deepa’s in their homes.

 Narak Chaturdashi Puja Vidhanam:

  1. Taking a bath before sunrise is highly recommended on this day. You must cover your entire body in sesame oil before taking a bath. You must next make three circles with apamarga leaves above your head.
  2. On Ahoi Ashtami, in the month of Kartik Masam, on a dark lunar fortnight, fill a jar to the brim. This is done in preparation for Narak Chaturdashi. Then, on the day of Narak Chaturdashi, combine your bath water with the water from the vessel. By doing this, it’s said that you charge the water and overcome your fear of judgment.
  3. After taking a shower, make intense prayers to Yamraj, the god of death, while facing south with your hands linked. You are cleansed of all your prior sins by doing this.
  4. To honor Lord Yamraj on this day, fire a properly oiled deepam in front of your front entrance.
  5. On the evening of Narak Chaturdashi, all the gods are worshipped before an oiled diya is lit and placed on either side of the main door or the entrance area of your home or place of employment. It is widely held that by doing this, you are inviting the goddess of riches, Lakshmi, to settle here and bring her plenty of wealth with her.
  6. Narak Chaturdashi is known by several names, including Roop Chaturdashi and Roop Chaudas, and this is a key factor in why we honor Lord Krishna on this day since it promotes physical beauty (our roop).
  7. It is suggested that we remove all of our worthless items from the house over a period of time called Nisheeth kaal on this day. This custom is sometimes referred to as “removing poverty.” On the day after Narak Chaturdashi, which falls on Diwali, it is strongly believed that the goddess of wealth, Lakshmi, visits your home and brings with her an atmosphere of abundance and wealth. You clean your home of all the filth and contaminants for this reason.
