Pradosha pooja is dedicated to Lord Siva and Goddess Parvati Devi. Pra means Remover and dosha mean sins. So Pradesham means the removal of sins. Worshipping Lord Siva on one pradosham is equal to going to the temple for 15 days. worshipping 11 pradoshams equal to one Kumbhabhishekam. The importance of Pradosha Shiva Pooja is that one will attain Moksha after worshipping 120 pradoshams.

As per Puranas,

  •         Pradosha Siva pooja is a step towards moksha.
  •         This pooja makes one free from sins and bad karma.
  •         One who does this pooja will be blessed with good health, wealth, honor, and happiness.

The story behind Pradosha Pooja:

Once upon a time, gods and demons were churning the Ksheera sagaram, an ocean of milk to extract Amritam, nectar. Mantra hill and snake Vasuki helped them to churn the ocean. Halahala visham a deadly poison was the primary extract to return out from ksheera sagara madhanam, the churning process. Gods and demons got Frightened by the halahala visham as its fumes can cause deadly destruction. They visited Lord Shiva for help. to save lots of the planet from the poison, Lord Shiva took every drop of halahala visham and swallowed it. He took the poison inside and kept it in his neck, thanks to which his throat turned blue. .

After this, Lord Siva is called Neelkanta. As per puranas, this happened on the Trayodashi, Gods and demons understood that by not worshiping Lord Siva they have committed an error. They requested Lord Siva for forgiveness. Lord Shiva forgave them and then danced between Nandi’s horns.
