The Puruhutika Devi Temple at Pithapuram, Andhra Pradesh, is one of the Ashta Dasha (Eighteen) Maha-Shaktipeeths and a Shaktipeeth. According to legend, Mata Sati’s left hand is said to have fallen here. Pithapuram was formerly known as Pithikapuram. It is the eleventh Sakthi Peetha of the Ashtadasa Shakthi Peetas (Eighteen). At this point, Sathi Devi was humiliated and she left the vicinity of Yaaga. Lord Shiva carried Sathi Devi’s body around the universe on his shoulders after the Dhaksha Yajna was shattered. Lord Vishnu divided Sathidevi’s body into 51 pieces with his Sudharsana Chakram. This place is called Pithapuram because Sathidevi’s seat is there (peetha).

As per Sanathana Dharma, Sathidevi Puja was done by Lord Indra as Purohit Here. As a result, she is referred to as Sri Puruhuthika Devi. With her left hand she is holding a drum, her right hand a metal rod, her lower left hand a Madhiphala fruit, and her lower left hand a golden plate. She is situated atop Srichakra Peetha, where she provides for the needs of her followers and grants them health.
