According to the story, a Brahmin named Uttak lived with his wife, son, and daughter in a kingdom. When the Brahmin’s daughter was old enough to get married, she married a good man. After some time, the Brahmin’s son-in-law died. Then, his daughter went back to live with her mother. When the girl was sleeping one day, her mother noticed that worms were all over her body.

The Brahmin asked the husband why his daughter was in such bad shape. Then, the brahman said that in her last life, his daughter had touched the objects of worship while she was having her period. Also, neither in the past nor in the present did he fast on Rishi Panchami, which is why he is in this situation. The father said that his daughter fasted on Rishi Panchami to get rid of all of these problems.
