Trimbakeshwar Temple VIP Darshan Online Booking Procedure

  • The Trimbakeshwar Shiva Temple has a rich history since it was originally built at the base of Bramhagiri, the peak from whence the Holy Ganga River flows. Shri. Nanasaheb Peshwa commissioned the construction of the Trimbakeshwar Temple between the years 1755 and 1786 AD.
  • The name “Trimbak” refers to the Hindu trinity of Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh. The Temple is constructed of black stone and is surrounded by a 20- to 25-foot stone wall that exudes wealth. Located around 400 meters from the Trimbakeshwar Shiva Temple lies the holy pond of Kushavarta Tirtha.
  • The pond, which was constructed in 1750, has a depth of 21 feet. It is widely held that the Ganga River disappears into the Bramhahgiri Hills, and then reemerges in Kushavarta, attesting to the higher sanctity of the Kushavarta Tirtha.
  • Lord Rama is claimed to have visited Trimbakeshwar to do Shraddha for his father Dashrath, and the holy sage Gautama is said to have bathed in the waters of the Kushavarta pond there.
  • The Trimbakeshwar Temple’s main gate, known as the Mukhya Dwar, is where visitors must wait to enter the temple grounds. A large white marble Nandi stands at the temple’s entrance, facing the Shiva linga.
  • Lord Shiva (Shankara) is reported to have a vehicle named Nandi. It is thought that if one whispers their request or desire into Nandi’s ear, the bull would relay it to Shiva.

Trimbakeshwar, as Told in Myth

  • Brahmagiri Parvat is so named because legend has it that Brahmadeva did penance there in order to appease Lord Shiva.
  • On this peak, Gautam Rishi formerly had his ashram. He undertook severe penance and won over Mahadev in order to cleanse himself of the sin of cow slaughter.
  • Lord Shiva, having become a trio at the behest of sage Gautam, is enshrined here in the shape of a Jyotirlinga. Trimbakeshwar is the name that eventually stuck for this location.
  • A Jyotirlinga is a Prakashstambh, as is well known. There are three thumb-shaped cups in the Shivpindi at Trimbakeshwar in which the Trimurti, i.e., “Brahma-Vishnu-Mahesh,” resides, making the real construction of the Trimbakeshwar Shivalinga distinct from that of the other 11 Jyotirlingas. The Godavari River always begins at this Shivling. There is no other Shivling like it in existence.
  • This is the only one of the 12 Jyotirlinga temples where “Trikal Pooja” has been done on the Jyotirlinga for over 350 years, according to local legend.
