About Karthika Masam

A month-long event called Karthika Masam is observed the whole month. For Hindus, it is regarded as the auspicious and holiest month. Karthika Masam is named after the star “krithika.” It is also supposed to be Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva’s favorite month. A constellation known as Scorpio-Libra, which typically has the name of its apparent shape or is associated with a mythical character, will be active during Karthika Masam. These stars will have a scissor-like form. The name “Karika” is metaphorically symbolized by the Krittikas, the six mothers who nurse Lord Shiva’s son Kartikeya, another six-faced Kumara.

2022 Karthika Masam Start Date and End Date Telugu Calendar

October 26 to November 23 in 2022 would mark the start and conclusion of Karthika Masam.

Karthika Masam marks the start of winter and lasts from Aaswayuja Sukla pournami for up to one month on the day following Deepavali. The eight-month of the year, which follows the sun’s entry into Scorpio, is when it starts. During this month, there are a number of rites and traditions that must be observed. The most intriguing truth is that on Ashadha suddha Ekadashi, Lord Vishnu sleeps, and on Karthika suddha Ekadashi, he awakens.

Importance of Karthika Masam Snanam:

Three baths each day are recommended throughout this season. Water is the sole solvent capable of eliminating all types of contaminants from the body as well as the mind and emotional currents. If we take a bath while reciting the holy hymns associated with Lord Varuna, we are treating water as a type of energy (energy concealed in the atomic constituents) and this will rejuvenate every atomic component of the body and mind. Additionally, it would be advantageous to us on many levels on both the spiritual and material planes. The existence of such consciousness is what renders water the all-purpose solvent. In Abishekam, Lord Shiva receives a gift of holy waters. Bathing is especially crucial in this month since all the waters are particularly charged with peculiar electromagnetic currents.

Daily Activities in Karthika Masam

The day begins early with a cold-water bath, followed by a visit to the temple, lighting of the deepam, a fast, and saligrama pooja. Mondays are the luckiest days during this season, which is particularly significant to Lord Shiva. According to the Puranas, by engaging in the Kartika Masam Vratham, we can purge our previous karmas and atone for whatever crimes we may have done. Ghee derived from cow’s milk is used to light lamps at sunrise and sunset to bring success, money, and health into our life. Between our birth and death, it also burns our earthly wants.

Tulasi Pooja in Karthika Masam:

During this month, the Tulasi plant is also prayed to and worshipped daily by lighting a deepam. There is a legend that Tulasi appeared as a sister of the goddess Lakshmi during the churning of the Amrita Mathanam Ocean. Lakshmi disapproved of Tulasi’s desire to wed Lord Vishnu and cursed her to turn into a plant. However, Lord Vishnu felt sorry for her and granted her request by bestowing the gift that Tulasi will be by his side when he takes the form of a saligram. The plant known as Tulasi is adorned and blessed on Kartika Shukla Dwadashi.

Importance of Karthika Somavaram:

According to the Skanda puranam, Mondays in Karthika Masam are unique. Soma, the Lord Someshvara who wears the soma, the waning moon, on the matted hair, is one of the names of Lord Shiva. The traditional steps of Karthika Somavara Vratham include a full day of fasting and the Rudra Abhishekam, which involves chanting the Rudra Namakam and Rudra Chamakam. After seeing the stars, eat.
