About Kartik Ganga Snan

Kartik Snan is a significant Hindu ceremony performed on the Purnima tithi (full moon day) of the Hindu lunar month of Kartik (popularly known as Kartik Purnima). This day comes between the months of October and November on the English calendar. Kartik, the eighth lunar month in the Hindu calendar, is regarded as a very fortunate season. Several Hindu scriptures discuss the significance and holiness of this month.

According to Hindu legend, Lord Vishnu assumed the form of a fish (called a “Matysa”) in the month of Kartik in order to restore the Vedas. The authentic Kartik Snan ceremony begins on Kartik Sudda Padyami and lasts the entire month. Varanasi, Kurukshetra, and Pushkar are all prominent Hindu pilgrimage locations that are active during Kartik Snan.

Importance of the Kartik Snan / Why Kartik Snan should do?

A number of Hindu holy writings and Puranas, including the Padma Purana, Skanda Purana, and Naarad Purana, discuss the significance of Kartik Snan. Lord Krishna described to His wife Satyabhama the merits of Kartik Snan and its execution. On this joyous day, Hindus perform the customary bath in great numbers. In the month of Kartik, a single snan is equivalent to 1000 Ganga snans and more than 100 Magha snans. People commonly think that if they take a holy bath in the month of Kartik and donate money, their sins will be forgiven.

• Kartik Snan 2022 begins on October 9 and concludes on November 8.
• The Purnima tithi begins at 3:42 a.m. on October 9 and ends at 2:24 a.m. on October 10.
• On Kartik Purnima, people believe they can reach paradise by bathing in the Ganges River at Prayag and in the Himalayan “Badarikashrama.” Even if you are unable to bathe in the Ganga, you should visit another nearby body of water.

Kartik Ganga Snan 2022 Dates Vidhi:

• Bathing in a sacred river or body of water is the most essential aspect of Kartik Snan. On this day, believers rise before dawn to perform a ritual bath. Men and women alike partake in this ritual bath.
• On this day, some individuals who wish to please Lord Vishnu also fast. This vrat stipulates that the observer must also feed a Brahmin.
• On Kartik Snan, devotees worship the Supreme Preserver, Lord Satyanarayan. Some worshippers also venerate Ganga Mata, the Goddess of the sacred rivers.
• The havan is also performed during the pooja. There are six “Kritikas” that are worshipped at night. Shiva, Sambhuti, Santati, Preeti, Kshama, and Anusuya are their names.
• A Brahmin is also given a buffalo when the pooja is complete. People believe that if they perform all puja rites, they will be reborn in “Shivalok” after death.
• Donating lamps on Kartik Snan is seen as a commendable act. It is believed that lighting deep in the temples of Lord Shiva, Surya Dev, and Chandra Dev is extremely rewarding.
• This is equivalent to performing an Ashwamegha Yagya. People may also donate in different ways, depending on their desires.
