In the conventional Hindu calendar, the second month is known as the Vaisakh month, Vaisakh mas, or Vaishakha masam. The Gregorian calendar places this month between April and May. The month of Vaisakh is the second month in both the North Indian calendar and the calendars of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Maharashtra. It is the seventh in Gujarati calendars. As per Bengali and Oriya Calendars, the Vaisakh month, or Baisakh Mahina is the first month of the year.

The month of Vaisakh is regarded as the most auspicious and the month that Lord Vishnu enjoys the most. According to the Sage Narada, Vaisakh Mahina is the most auspicious month out of the three (Kartik Mahina, Magh Mahina, and Vaisakh Mahina). The Vaishakh month is praised by Rishi Narad, who claims that Brahmaji designed it better than the other 11 months of the Hindu calendar.

The uniqueness of the month of Vaishakh is that, in accordance with popular belief, Bhagwan Vishnu is revered as the supreme monarch of the entire month. The major purpose of tulsi lies in Bhagwan Vishnu’s devotion. It is against the law to worship Parshuram and Bhagwan Vishnu during this month. Additionally, this month is a good time to recite the Gita. The feet of Shri Banke Bihari Ji are also seen this month. and performing this virtue is achieved by Ganga Snan and by worshiping the Ganges in the month of Vaishakh. Overall, from a religious perspective, the month of Vaishakh is particularly special.

Jupiter (Guru Graham) is the Bhagwan and Indra (Devendra) is the deity (Adipathi) of the Visakha Nakshatra. Because of this, this entire month is dedicated to worship, fasting, and bath donation. The virtue acquired by the donations given this month is said to have no bounds.
