Significance and Procedure of Ayudha pooja
Ayudha Pooja is celebrated on the Navami or the ninth day of Navaratri. Ayudha Pooja is the worship of Instruments. According to Puranas, there are many legends associated with the Ayudha Pooja. On this day, Goddess Durga killed demon Mahishasura in the form of Goddess Devi Chamundeshwari. The weapons used by the Goddess Durga are worshipped on Ayudha Pooja. Another legend is that when the Pandavas were in the last year of Agnyathavasam or exile, they took their weapons, worshipped them, and hid them. This was done on Ayudha Pooja day and it is believed to be the reason behind the Pandavas’ victory in the battle of Kurukshetra. The procedure of Ayudha Pooja:
- Clean the tools, machinery, shops, or vehicles for which Ayudha Pooja is to be done.
- Apply sandalwood paste and kumkum on the tools, machinery, or vehicles. Decorate them or the shop with flowers and banana saplings.
- Make puffed rice and jaggery powder mixture for prasadam.
- Keep some betel leaves. Betel nuts and bananas to god.
- Then lit the camphor and agarbattis for harathi.
- Break the whole coconut and offer it to god.
- Lemon and pumpkin are broken into pieces to be free from evil eyes or Drishti.
- Distribute sweets and prasadam for friends and family.
