Sri Varasidhi Vinayaka Swamy Temple or Vinayaka Temple is located at Kanipakam in Tirupati district of Andhra Pradesh where the main deity, Lord Vinayaka Self-manifested in the early 11th century. The tremendous history behind this oldest temple makes it a must-visit place on the way from Tirumala.
Kanipakam Vinayaka Temple History:
Once upon a time, there were three brothers who were deaf, mute, and blind. They wanted to dig a well for their fields for a continuous water flow. While digging, they were struck by a hard object. Just when they started to dig further, blood started to burst out of the well which cleared out all of their disabilities. They found a deity of Ganesha without a base but it is full of water. People rushed all over the place to see this divine scene. People offered the self-manifested idol, Lord Ganesha with Loads of coconuts resulting in a flow of stream spreading to a distance of more than one and a quarter acres. The word Kanipakam, Kani means “Water” and Pakam means “Water flow” hence emerged from the fact that there is never-ending water flow into the wetland. Since then the temple was expanded further in 1336 by the Emperors of the Vijayanagara dynasty and now the government of Andhra Pradesh appointed a trust board to administer the temple.
