Ambabai/Mahalaxmi is the name of the temple, and it is believed that the goddess and her husband reside nearby. The temple was possibly constructed around 700 AD and is in the Chalukya empire’s architectural style. A stone platform supports the sandstone statue of the goddess with four arms and a crown.

The 2 feet, 8.5 inch-tall Mahalaxmi carving on black stone. Across from Mahakali, the Shri Yantra is carved into a corner of the temple. The goddess’ vahana is a stone lion that can be seen at the back of the statue. Kolhapur Mahalakshmi Temple is one of the eighteen most prominent Maha Shakti Peethams. These temples are mentioned and lauded in Adi Shankaracharya’s Ashta Dasa Peetham Stotram.

The region is known as Avimuktakshetra in the Puranas. Kolhapur’s previous name was Karveer. It means that Lord Vishnu and Goddess Mahalakshmi have blessed the region forever. They are present here even during the Mahaprayakala or the Pralayam.

It is a common misconception that Lord Dattatreya visits Goddess Mahalakshmi around noon to ask for her blessings. Many people believe that in order to see Sri Balaji in Tirumala Devasthanam in Andhra Pradesh, you must first travel to Kolhapur to see Goddess Mahalakshmi.

Kumkum Archana is a method of goddess worship using kumkum. Turmeric and a few other ingredients are used to make kumkum, which is used to draw in Shakthi, the supreme power of the universe, and Goddess Parvathi. Kumkum Archana to Devi is the means by which all forms of Purusha, namely Dharma, Artha, Kama, and Moksha, are attained in this life. Kumkum Puja has many advantages, including the elimination of barriers, success in all pursuits, and a happy outlook on life.

A sacred Puja or worship of Goddesses using kumkum is called a “Kumkum Archana.” Knowing that kumkum is formed of haldi and other ingredients that improve its strength to draw in the finest force, or, to put it another way, the essence of the Goddesses that exist in nature, is the first step in understanding this. Kumkum is a highly useful tool for goddess worship since it makes it simple to communicate with the goddesses and win their favor. You don’t even need flowers, candles, or other decorations as in most Poojas.

When performed while reciting the Lalita Sahasranama alongside Archana, this ritual becomes more potent. The Kolhapur Mahalaxmi Temple’s Kumkumarchana puja cannot be reserved online. Devotees must visit the shrine in order to get these tickets.
