Krithigai is an astrological star in Hinduism. Krithigai Pooja is performed on the day this star falls in the Tamil month of Thai. It is considered extremely auspicious by Lord Muruga or Skanda’s devotees. The Karthigai ladies looked after Lord Muruga when he was born as six newborns. Lord Shiva bestowed the status of stars on them as a reward for their dedication.

Aadi Krithigai (July-August) and Thai Krithigai (Jan-Feb) are especially special because they occur in the first month of Uttarayana Punyakalam (the holy period when the sun moves northwards) and Dakshinayana Punyakalam (the holy period when the sun moves southwards), respectively. If at all possible, worship Lord Muruga on these auspicious days to obtain His blessings. Karthigai, or Krithigai Nakshatra, in the Tamil month of Thai is considered particularly auspicious by Lord Muruga or Skanda devotees.
