Mythology of Arudra Darisanam:
As he sat in his snake lounge chair, Lord Vishnu was deep in thought. Vishnu’s five-headed serpent, Adisesha, inquired of the Lord about his thoughts. The Lord responded by admiring Lord Shiva’s exquisite movements as he danced across the cosmos. Adisesha then asked if he may also watch the dance. Vishnu instructed him to perform penance in order to accomplish this. Adisesha sat in meditation for a long time before meeting Natraja at Chidambaram, together with the sages Vyagrapada and Patanjali.
Arudra Darshan Reservations are not available in Thiruvalangadu. At the shrine, devotees can have darshan.
Arudra Darisanam rites comprise the following:
Before visiting a Shiva temple and performing Abhishekam, devotees bathe and cleanse themselves (hydration pooja). Devotees observe a strict fast that is broken after the puja. They eat a specific cuisine known as ‘Kali,’ which is thought to cure all ills. Visiting the Nataraja shrine in Chidambaram is particularly auspicious.
