Sri Hathiramji Mutt is one of the most historic institutions on the Tirumala hill. It traces back to Hathiram Bhavaji (also known as Hathiram Baba), a saint from North India who came to Tirumala on pilgrimage around the early 16th century and became a deep devotee of Lord Venkateswara, settling near the temple.

The Mutt’s bond with the temple is more than spiritual. From 1843 to 1932, the Hathiramji Mutt actually administered the Tirumala temple, before the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) was formed to take over management. Because of this long heritage, the Mutt continues to host pilgrims in simple accommodation close to the shrine.
