Kedara Gowri Vratam Pooja Vidhanam

This made Goddess Parvati furious and asked Lord Siva about it. Lord Siva explained that since she had no powers, she was not included in the pooja. She was not happy with Lord Siva’s explanation and approached Sage Gauthama and asked for a solution to become a part of Lord Siva’s body. Gautama Rishi suggested she do Kedara vratham. Goddess Parvati performed the vratam with full devotion then Lord Siva offered the left part of his body to Parvati Devi. This form of Lord Siva is called Ardhanareeshwara Swamy. Kedara Gowri Vratham is performed for 21 days starting from Shukla Paksha Ashtami in Purattasi till Deepavali Amavasya. But nowadays the vratam is performed only for 1 day i.e. Diwali Amavasya day.
Devotees believe that by performing Kedara Gowri Vratam to get rid of their sins and lead a happy life.
Kedara Gowri Vratham Procedure:
- Do ahead bath and clean the house.
- Take a kalasam and keep basil leaves on the inside of kalasam. Fill three-fourths of kalasam with water.
- Apply turmeric and kumkum to coconut and keep it on the top of the kalasam.
- Now take a plate and fill it with rice grains. Place the kalasam on the plate.
- The vratam starts with Kedara Gowri Ashotharam.
- Then 21 pieces of clothes and Mangala harathi are given to god.
- Kedaragauri daaram, a sacred thread, is made of 21 cotton strands with 21 knots on it.
- Female devotees will tie that thread to their neck and male devotees will tie it to their right hand.
- The vratam ends next day by visarjana pooja.
