MAHA SIVARATRI POOJA VIDHI
Masa sivaratri in Magha masam is called as Maha sivaratri i.e. on 11-03-2021.Devotees take a head bath and visit Shiva temple for pooja and darshan. Generally, people fast on Maha Shivaratri. Chaturdashi tithi begins on 11th March 2021 at 2:39 PM and ends on 12th March 2021 at 3:02 PM. Pancha bootha sthalams Ekambareshwara temple, Jambukeshwara temple, Arunachaleshwara temple, Kalahastheeswara temple, The thillai Nataraja temples are very famous for Maha Shivaratri celebrations. Maha sivaratri Pooja Vidhi is strictly followed in Lord Siva temples.
Maha sivaratri Pooja Procedure:
- Priests do pooja to Siva lingam for every three hours on maha shivaratri.
- Then abhishekam is done with milk, yogurt, honey, ghee, sugar, and water.
- Then a vermilion paste is applied to shiva lingam.
- After abhishekam, leaves of Bilwa or Bilwa pathraalu are kept on top of Siva linga to cool down the hot tempered diety.
- Also, Beri or jujube fruit is offered, as it symbolizes gratification of desires.
- Devotees do jagaaram or stay awake all night chanting Siva namas on Maha Shivaratri.
