Margasira Masam in Telugu Calendar

In the traditional Hindu Telugu calendar, Margasira Masam is the ninth month. This calendar is used in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. In the old Hindu calendar, the first month was called Margasira Masam or Agrahayana. Chaitram became the first month of the Hindu calendar over time. In the middle of the good month of Margasira, the Sun moves from the Scorpio sign of Vrischika Rasi to the sign of Dhanur Rasi (zodiac sign of Sagittarius). When the Sun moves into Dhanur Rasi, which marks the start of Dhanur Masam, Dhanur Sankramanam is held.

Margasira Masam 2022 Start Date and End Date

  • Margasira Masam 2022 runs from November 24, 2022, to December 23, 2022. In this month, December 16 is the start of the holy Dhanur Masa.
  • Dhanurmasam is the time between when the Sun moves into Dhanu Rashi and when it moves into Makara Sankramana.

The month also marks the start of Hemanta Ritu, which is the start of winter in tropical areas, and Dhanur Masam usually starts on December 16. During Dhanur Masam, women in some parts of Andhra Pradesh draw special designs on the floor of the main entrance. These are called dwaram muggulu.

Importance of Margasira masam for Hindus:

Hindus, especially those who follow Sri Maha Vishnu, believe that Margasira Masam and Dhanur Masam are very lucky months because they are thought to be the form of Kesava (Sri Maha Vishnu). Since Sri Maha Vishnu is the month, Lakshmi Devi, who is married to Sri Maha Vishnu, loves this month very much. On Thursdays of Margasira Masam, people worship Lakshmi Devi. In many parts of the country, they do Margasira Lakshmivar Pooja/Vratam and pray especially to Lakshmi Devi for health, wealth, and happiness.

The Kanaka Mahalakshmi Temple in Visakhapatnam is fully decorated for Margasira Masam. Devotees from all over the district come to the temple, especially on Thursdays, during Margasira Masam. The whole area has an atmosphere like a fair.
