Phalguna Purnima is the full moon day or Purnima that falls during the month of Phalguna. Hindu full moon days are referred to as Purnima or Poornmashi in states of North India, Pournami in states of South India, and Poonam in Gujarat. Since all Purnima days fall on key holidays or Jayanti days in the Hindu calendar, they are all significant.
On Purnima days throughout the year, many families across India and the rest of the globe observe a day-long fast, worship Sri Vishnu and Chandra Devta, the Moon God, do Satya Narayana Puja, and read or listen to the Satya Narayan Katha. It is considered extremely auspicious to recite the Gayatri and “Om Namo Narayana” mantras 1008 times in a row on the day of Phalguna Purnima Vrat.

Story of Phalguna Purnima :
The Narada Purana tells a tale about Phalguna Purnima. Asura Hiranyakashipu and his sister Holika are the subjects of this tale. To murder Prahlada, the son of Hiranyakashipu and a disciple of Lord Vishnu, she sat on fire. By God’s grace, Prahlada the disciple avoided harm but Holika herself perished in the flames. Because of this, it has become customary to make a cake of cow dung and wood for Holika on the day of Phalguna Purnima and to perform the ritual of Holika Dahan at an auspicious moment. Lord Vishnu and his disciple Prahlada should be honored during Holika Dahan.
