Sani pradosham – History:

When the milky ocean was churned during the Samudra Manthan, the Devas (angels) on one side and the Asuras (on the other) tugged the Vasuki snake wrapped around the Mandara mountain on the back of Lord Vishnu’s Kurma Avataar. They churned the ocean, causing the Vasuki serpent to feel anguish and discharge venom. Everyone would be consumed by it. They were at loss for what to do next. They visited Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva drank all of the poison he had accumulated.

Goddess Parvati stated that she sits in Lord Shiva’s heart and that drinking it would harm her as well, so he halted the poison at his neck, turning it blue. As a result, he was given the name “Neelakantha.” Following this, the Ananda Tandav was performed. As a result, it is regarded to be a joyous period. The inner angels and demons are constantly at odds in our minds. It is believed that we might be rid of the negative karma that is churned.

The story depicts the element of poison, which symbolizes karma. Everyone, no matter who they are, suffers from karma to varying degrees. On this level, everyone’s pain is the same. Lord Shiva offers to eliminate this poison, similar to Karma, in order to save humanity. On the earth plane, karma can be banished. One can dissolve his karma by remembering this cosmic occurrence. This should be done during the 13 days of the moon’s waxing and waning.

This is the hour and a half before the sunset window. This is the time to purge your karma. Shiva’s energy is available on the planet at this moment. A ritual is conducted to alleviate suffering. Any bad impressions and contaminants of the mind and consciousness can be eliminated. According to the Shiv Purana, the Pradosh Kal is good at obtaining offspring, health, and riches. It cleanses worshippers of all sins and frees them from the consequences of their past acts. Praying at this specific hour on this day fulfills all desires.
