The main Shakti deities worshiped during Ayudha Puja are Saraswati (goddess of wisdom, art, and literature), Lakshmi (goddess of wealth), and Parvati (divine mother), besides various types of instruments; It is in this context that weapons are worshiped by soldiers and tools are worshiped by artisans. Worship is considered a meaningful ritual. It focuses particular attention on one’s profession and its related tools and indicates that divine power is working behind it to perform well and get proper rewards.

Modern science has had a lasting impact on the scientific knowledge and industrial base in India. The ethos of the old religious order has been retained by the worship of computers and typewriters during Ayudha Puja. In Orissa, tools traditionally used for agriculture such as the plow, for warfare such as swords and daggers, and inscriptional writing such as the “Karani” or “Lekhani” (a metal stylus) are worshipped.

Tools and all tools of the profession are cleaned first. All tools, machines, vehicles, and other devices are then well-polished. Then they are kept with saffron. Then on the day before the puja day, they are placed on the designated platform and decorated with flowers. Then it is worshiped on the day of Ayudha Puja.
