It is one of the 108 Divyadesams devoted to Lord Paramapadanathan, also known as Vaikuntanathan, and his consort, Sri Lakshmi, also known as Sri Vaikundavalli.

The temple, which was constructed in the Dravidian architectural style, is exalted at Divya Prabandha, the first Tamil canon of the Azhwar saints from the sixth to the ninth century AD. There would have been Sri Ramanujar and Sri Manavalamamunigal in the temple. In this place, Sri Thirumangai Alvar created Mangalasasnam to glorify the Lord (10 Pasurams).

The two main festivals observed in the temple are Vaikasi Brahmotsavam, observed during the Tamil month of Vaikasi (May–June), and Vaikunta Ekadashi, observed during the Tamil month of Margazhi (December–January). A group of temple priests recites verses from Nalayira Divya Prabandham while playing the nagaswaram (pipe instrument) and Tamil(percussion instrument).

Kanchipuram Sri Vaikunda Perumal Temple History:

Hindu mythology states that Viroacha, a king, governed the region known as Vidarbha Desa, where the temple is situated. Virocha was unable to have children as a result of her sins during the previous pregnancy. When he prayed in the Kailasanathar temple in Kanchipuram, Shiva, the god who guarded the building, granted him the wish that he would have children when the Dvarapalas, or temple guardians, of the Vishnu temple, were born. After that, he gave birth to two boys, Pallavan and Vallavan. Both boys offered Ashwamedha Yagna in devotion to Vishnu to benefit his kingdom’s populace. Irundha Thirukkolam received Perumal Sri Vishnu’s service as these two were doing a yagna. He performed service as “Paramapadha.”
