Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple Significance:

Dedicated to the Hindu goddess Meenakshi, the Arulmigu Meenakshi Amman Temple (or Shri Meenakshi Sundareshwarar Temple) may be found in the temple city of Madurai in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Sacred to the goddess Meenakshi, a manifestation of Parvati, and her husband Sundareshwarar, a manifestation of Shiva.

Meenakshi Amman Temple History:

The goddess temple in Madurai is recorded in texts from the sixth century CE and sits at the heart of the old temple city. Paadal Petra Sthalams include this temple. It is the 275 Shiva temples known as Paadal Petra sthalams that are praised in the poetry of Tamil Saiva Nayanars from the sixth to ninth centuries CE.

The Tamil Nadu State Emblem was inspired by the temple’s west tower (gopuram).

It is said that the king of the gods, Indra, discovered the holy Suyambulingam in Kadambavanam and afterward housed it in Madurai. That the Lord can be seen riding Indira’s chariot at this temple is taken as evidence of this. Several artifacts from the early Christian era indicate that the temple was in use at that time. In 1310, during the invasion of Islamic conqueror Malikkapur, the temple was nearly totally demolished. Most of the temple’s antique statues were destroyed because Islamic rulers were notoriously intolerant of other faiths.

Madurai Meenakshi Amman Abhishekam Online Booking

Abhishekam is done daily at 6.30 am, thus you must pre-book tickets at the very least by the previous day’s night. Once you enter the temple, head to the area near the South entrance and ask for the booking counter; you’ll be directed to the booking office. The price for an abhishekam to both the gods and goddesses would be roughly Rs.1,300, but this would be adjusted as needed. Online booking is currently available via their portal.

Meenakshi Amman Abhishekam Booking Steps:

1. By entering your username and password, you will be sent to the official Madurai Meenakshi Temple website.
2. Decide on an Abhishekam date and select it.
3. After that, input the information for each pilgrim who will be present during the abhishekam.
4. When you’re pleased with the information, click the “next” button.
5. Among the options of debit, credit, and UPI Pick a Payment Option and Finish Your Purchase.
6. After your money has been processed, we will send you a PDF detailing your room.
