Legend about Tiruchanur Padmavathi ammavaari temple:

Many Puranas talk about how Goddess Padmavathi Devi came to be Lord Venkateswara’s wife. A legend says that there once was a good Brahmin named Pundarika. Even though he did everything the shastras said to do, he did not have a son. At age 50, he finally had a son, whom he named Madhava. He took care to teach the child everything he needed to know, and he married him off to a religious woman. After a while, Madhava went off the right path and started to follow another woman.

After she died, he went around like a crazy person. He followed a group of pilgrims to Tirumala one day. His sins were washed away when he bathed in the holy Sudarshana Lake and climbed the hills. There, he heard a voice from the sky telling him to take a bath in the Swamy Pushkarini and ask Lord Varaha Swamy for his blessing. King Mitravarman of Thondamandalam had him later, and he was named Akasharaja.

Akasharaja became a handsome and wise prince when he grew up. He got engaged to Dharanidevi. They were very sad that they didn’t have any children yet. Akasharaja decided to do a yagna because a priest told him to. When the ground for the sacrifice was turned over, the couple found a beautiful girl in a thousand-petal lotus. A voice from heaven told the king to love and care for the child. Padmavati was the child’s name because she was found in a lotus (Padma). Lord Venkateshwara went looking for Padmavathi when she grew up. Lord Srinivasa and Goddess Padmavathi’s marriage in heaven was a big deal.

The temple was built when Tondaman Chakravarthi was alive. Tondaman Chakravarthi is the older brother of the goddess Padmavathi.

Another Story about Tiruchanur Padmavathi Ammavaari temple:

In Vykuntam, a Maharshi named Brugu used his feet to beat the heart of the Lord. In return, instead of getting angry, Lord did a lot of good things for them. This made Padmavathi angry, so she went to Patalokam, where she heard a voice from God tell her that a “Pushkarini” had been dug on the banks of the “Swarnamukhi” river. Maha Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, did penance for 12 years. In her 13th year, she came out as Sri Padmavati from a golden lotus in the middle of Pushkarini on Panchami Day in the holy month of Karthika, when Uttarashadha Nakshatra came into the sky.
