The Yantrodharaka Hanuman Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman, located at the hilltop on the banks of the Tungabhadra River in Hampi, Karnataka, India. This temple is also known as Pranadeva Temple. Kodandarama Temple temple dedicated to Lord Rama near the Hanuman temple stands as evidence of Lord Rama’s and Hanuman’s union.
Legend of Yantrodharaka Hanuman temple
According to the sthala Purana, Sri Vyasarajaru a famous saint from Madhva philosophy used to draw a picture of the Lord Hanuman every day on rocks using charcoal before he offered his prayers. The picture disappears after the rituals were completed. This happened for 12 days in a row until Sri Vyasarajaru pleaded to the Lord to appear in front of him. On the twelfth day, Lord Hanuman appeared in front of Sri Vyasaraja Theertharu and blessed him. It is believed that Lord Hanuman asked Sri Vyasaraja to constrain him in a hexagonal amulet and install it in that place.
Yantrodharaka Hanuman temple is constructed by the Vijayanagara emperor, Tammaraya. Lord Hanuman’s idol is depicted on a granite stone. Lord Hanuman is seated in a padmasana position within the center of Srichakra which is known as Yantra. The right hand of Lord Hanuman is seen holding Vyakhyanamudra and the left hand is seen holding Dyanamudra. Lord Hanuman appears to wear Kiritamukuta and other usual ornaments on his body. Over Srichakra yantra, there are carvings of 12 monkeys holding tails of one another as they face backward representing the 12 days of prayers that Sri Vyasaraja. Sri vyasaraja composed a short hymn to Lord Hanuman, called Yantrodharaka Hanuman Stotra.

Among the 732 installations of Lord Hanuman by Sri Vyasaraja, Yantrodharaka Hanuman is the first installation. Chakrateertha, a part of Tungabhadra flows in this divine land. A small temple is dedicated to Lord Srinivasa in which, the idol is carved by Sri Vyasaraja himself.
