SIGNIFICANCE OF NAVA TIRUPATI TEMPLES

Nava Tirupati temples are a set of nine Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu. All the 9 temples are called Divya Desams. All these nine temples are situated within a 10-15 km radius. These nine temples are on either side of the Tamarai Bharani river on the Tirunelveli and Tiruchendur state highway. Usually, one starts with Sri Vaikuntam and ends with Azhvaar Tirunagari. The literature and mythology of these temples are carved as sculptures and paintings on the walls of the temples. The literature and mythology of these temples hold the significance of Nava Tirupati temples.

All these none temples are situated in ancient Pandyanadu also known as southern Tamil Nadu. On the Tamil month of Vaikasi, the festival of Vaikasi Utsavam also known as 9 Garuda Sevai Utsavam is celebrated in a grand manner. The idols of Nava Tirupati are brought on Garuda Vahana on the day of Vaikasi Utsavam.

  4. Devapiran Temple, Rettai Tirupathi, Tholaivillimangalam sthalam (Rahu)
  5. Aravinda Lochanan Temple, Rettai Tirupathi, Tholaivillimangalam sthalam (Kethu)
  6. Vaithamanidhi Perumal Temple, Thirukolur, Sevvai sthalam (Mars)
  7. Adhinaathar Temple Thirukkurugur Azhwar Thirunagari, Guru sthalam (Jupiter)
  8. Kaisinavendhan Temple,  Boomi Palar, Thiruppulinkudi, Budha sthalam (Mercury)
  9. Sri Vaikuntanatha Temple, Kallapiran, Sri Vaikuntam, Surya sthalam (Sun)
