Vaikunta Ekadasi, which is also called Mukkoti Ekadasi, is an essential Hindu fast that honors Vishnu. This is the Shukla Paksha Ekadashi, which happens during the month of Dhanur/Margazhi on the Hindu calendar. Members of the Vaishnava community believe that on this holy day, “Vaikunta Dwara,” or “the entrance to the deity Himself,” opens. Hindu worshippers line up at the Vaikunth gate in Lord Vishnu temples in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. So, people in South India think of it as one of the luckiest days of the year.

On the eleventh day of Shukla Paksha in the month of Paush, Mukkoti Ekadashi happens. It is a very important holiday in Lord Vishnu’s temples. People who worship Lord Vishnu think that Mukkoti Ekadashi is a good day because it is believed that the “Vaikunta Dwaram” to the Lord’s home opens on this day. People believe that those who keep a sacred fast on Vaikuntha Ekadashi can go to “Vaikuntha” without seeing Yama Raja, the God of Death.

Vaikuntha Ekadashi is a day that devotees celebrate with fervor and devotion. It is known as “Mukkoti Ekadashi” in the southern states and is celebrated during the Tamil month of “Margazhi.” Special prayers, talks, speeches, and yajnas are done at the shrine of Lord Vishnu. Lord Vishnu is worshipped in South Indian temples where the celebrations are very grand.

Mukkoti Ekadasi 2023 in Telugu Date Vaikunta Ekadasi Tithi

Significance of Mukkoti Ekadasi:

The meaning of Vaikunta Ekadasi is talked about in Padma Purana. Tradition says that when the gods couldn’t take the fear of the demon Muran any longer, they turned to Lord Vishnu for help. Lord Vishnu and the demon Muran were in a fight. Lord Vishnu went to a cave in Badarikashrama that belonged to the goddess Haimavati. He worked on making a new weapon to fight the demon Muran. Muran tried to kill Lord Vishnu while he was sleeping, but a female power coming from Lord Vishnu burned Muran with her eyes. Since it was the eleventh lunar day of the Vedic month, Lord Vishnu gave her the name “Ekadashi” and asked for a wish.

Ekadashi, on the other hand, asked Vishnu to forgive everyone who fasted on that day for things they had done wrong in the past. So, Vishnu told everyone that if they fasted on Ekadashi, they would get Vaikunth. According to the Vishnu Purana, Lord Vishnu let two demons into his home, Vaikuntam. They also asked for the blessing that anyone who hears their story and sees the image of Lord Vishnu coming out of the entrance, called Vaikunta Dwara, will reach Vaikuntam. On this day, it is said that devotees can use Vishnu temples as a way to get to the Vaikunta Dwara.
