Hayagriva Jayanthi is the day on which Lord Maha Vishnu took Avatara as Horse Headed God to rescue Vedas from Hayagreevasura.  In the form of Lord Hayagreeva Avatara Maha Vishnu given Vedas to Chaturmukha Brahma. The Day Lord Hayagriva appeared on the earth on Sravana Pournima named as Hayagriva Jayanthi. It’s believed that Lord Hayagriva restored all the Vedas to Lord Brahma. Legend behind Hayagriva Jayanthi – who is lord Hayagriva :

Once there lived a demon ‘HAYAGRIVA’ means ‘horse-headed man’, who is the son of saint Kashyapa and Dhanu. He stole all four Vedas from Brahma, he also received a boon from Lord Brahma that only a horse-headed man like him can kill him. To save Vedas from demons and to uplift the human race, LORD VISHNU took the avatar of “HORSE HEADED MAN -HAYAGRIVA”. And in a battle that ensued, Lord Vishnu eliminated the demon Hayagrivasura to retrieve the Vedas.

SIGNIFICANCE OF HAYAGRIVA JAYANTHI :

LORD HAYAGRIVA is considered to be the god of knowledge and wisdom. The appearance of LORD HAYAGRIVA is unique. It’s depicted as LORD VISHNU with a human body and horse head, white in color, wearing white attire, and sitting on a white lotus. LORD BRAHMA also worshipped on this day. The horse head in this incarnation indicates ‘higher learning and wisdom’.Students worship LORD HAYAGRIVA for blessings to gain knowledge and wisdom.
