The eleventh lunar day or Tithi of the waxing or waning moon’s fortnight is Ekadashi. Ekadashi occurs twice a month, once during the Krishna Paksha and once during the Shukla Paksha. Vaikunta Ekadashi is one of the most important Vaishnava holidays, and it is celebrated in all temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu and his avatars.

It is a very auspicious day that is celebrated with zeal at the Tirumala Tirupati Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple and the Sri Ranganatha Swamy Temple at Srirangam. Worshippers fast and enter temples for Lord Vishnu’s Darshan from Vaikunta Dwaram, also known as Uthara Dwaram, on the day of Vaikunta Ekadasi. Vaikunta Dwaram, also called as Mukkoti Pradakshinam by devotees is thought to signify “the entrance to Vaikuntam.”
