CELEBRATION PROCEDURE OF UGADI

As per Purana, a demon named Somakasura stole the Vedas from Lord Brahma and went inside the sea and hid there. Lord Brahma asks the help of Lord Vishnu to get the Vedas from the demon, Somakasura. Lord Vishnu took Matsa avataram and then killed Somakasura. Then lord Vishnu returned the Vedas to Lord Brahma and then Lord Brahma started creating the world on that day. That day is known as Ugadi. In 2021, the Ugadi festival is celebrated on 13 April in Andhra Pradesh, Telengana, as Yugadi in Karnataka and Gudi Padwa in Maharastra.

Ugadi means Yuga Adi, which translates to the beginning of the new year. Ugadi is celebrated in Andhra Pradesh, Telengana, as Yugadi in Karnataka, and Gudi Padwa in Maharastra. There are 60 new years that repeat themselves in a cyclic manner as per the Hindu calendar.

Significance of Ugadi Festival

Ugadi celebration procedure:

  •         Clean the house thoroughly.
  •         Do ahead bath and wear new clothes.
  •         Decorate the house with Mamidi thoranams and rangoli.
  •         Prepare Ugadi Pachadi and traditional cuisines like Pulihora and Bobbatlu.
  •         Give naivedhyam to god and Pray to God for prosperity and good luck.
  •         Eat Ugadi pachadi and distribute it to others.
  •         Attend Ugadi panchanga sravanam at any temple or watch it on TV.
