The Pausha Putrada Ekadashi is done by couples and women who want a good son, the health and happiness of their children, and the health and happiness of their family as a whole. Parents do the Putrada Ekadashi because having a son is important in Hindu society because he takes care of them when they are old and helps them get to heaven.

Legend Behind Pausha Putrada Ekadashi:

Lord Krishna told King Yudhishthar the story of Putrada Ekadashi (the eldest of the five Pandavas). Once there lived a King called Suketuman who ruled Bhadravati. He was a kind and generous king, but he wasn’t very excited about life in general. He never did anything wrong. None of the money in his treasure was stolen, and he always believed in fairness and kindness.

But the fact that he didn’t have a son to take care of his kingdom after he died made him very worried. He thought that he would never be happy, either in this life or in the next. He was sad, so one day he went for a walk in the woods to clear his head. When he got to the bank of a lake, he saw a few sages living there. He told them how terrible he felt and asked if they could help.

They were happy with what he did, so they told him to fast on Paush Shukla paksha Ekadashi and pray to Lord Vishnu for a son. The king did what he was told to do with all his heart and faith. A few days later, the queen found out she was pregnant. Nine months later, they were blessed with a son. The king got his prince, and the couple got their legal heirs. Ever since then, couples who want to have children, especially a son, fast on Pausha Putrada Ekadashi.
