Vishnu Shodashopachara Pooja Vidhanam: 

  1. Avahanam                  –       Inviting the God to the Pooja.
  2. Aasanam                     –       Offering a Chair or seat to the God.
  3. Paadyam                     –       Using water, washing the feet of the God.
  4. Arghyam (Arghya)    –       Offering drinking water to the God.
  5. Achamanam               –       Cleaning the self before serving the God.
  6. Snanam                        –       Bathing the God
  7. Vasthram                     –       Offering the Clothes to the God to wear after bath
  8. Yagnopaveetham      –       Offering sacred thread to the God after bath.
  9. Shri Gandham            –       Offering Sandalwood paste to the god.
  10. Alankaram                  –       Decorating the God.
  11. Pushpam                     –       Offering flowers to the God.
  12. Dhupam                      –       Offering Perfumes for the God.
  13. Deepam                      –       Keeping God in a well-lighted place in the home.
  14. Naivedyam                 –       Offering food to the God.
  15. Thambulam                 –       Offering Pan to the God after the food.
  16. Neerajanam                –       Making the ambiance warmer so that the guest feels warm.
